PDG DR Himansu Basu continues to spread the word about the Calmed initiative to reduce unnecessary Maternal deaths, through our Rotary VTT missions. The Calmed strategy attacks the unnecessarily high death rates among mothers and their babies, particularly in India and other ‘hotspots’ through transfer of knowledge and skills to the local medical profession and communities.

Himansu took advantage of a visit to India to address the All India Congress of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (11,000 delegates!) which was held in Agra (home of the Taj Mahal) in January 2016. He addressed the Congress where the receptive audience heard of the Calmed approach and the work done so far through VTT visits, but also of the huge task still ahead.
